No — myCalanex sits alongside them. Handshake is a recruiting marketplace (jobs, employer relationships, event RSVPs). uConnect is a content/CMS layer. PeopleGrove is alumni networking. myCalanex is the readiness and advising layer between a student's pathway and those tools: intake, resume and LinkedIn work with counselor review, interview practice, at-risk flags, and a counselor caseload view. Students still apply through Handshake or employer sites; myCalanex is what makes them ready to compete when they do.

myCalanex is designed to operate under FERPA's school-official exception. Under a data processing agreement with each institution, we act at the institution's direction and use student data only to provide the contracted service. We do not claim to be FERPA certified. Student records are separated by institution at the database level with row-level security, counselors see only the students assigned to them, and administrator views of an individual student record are logged. Institutional reports hide any group smaller than five students. Before joining a counselor cohort or faculty class, students see what that staff member will and won't be able to see.

Data lives in a Postgres database with row-level security enforced at the database — not just the app. Students see their own records. Assigned counselors see only students on their caseload. Admins see aggregate dashboards by default, and administrator views of an individual student record are written to an access log. External employers see no student PII unless a student explicitly applies or opts in.

AI is used for resume tailoring, XYZ-bullet rewriting, interview practice feedback, and a first-pass resume review. Every AI output is labeled as AI-generated. Students choose whether their resume gets an AI auto-approval (default, unlocks LinkedIn immediately) or a counselor review (5-day SLA). AI never makes admissions, funding, or grading decisions. We run an internal eval harness on every prompt change to catch regressions before they ship.

First-Destination survey coverage and response rate, time-from-graduation to first outcome, readiness score movement over time, resume/LinkedIn approval rates, counselor SLA hit-rate, and at-risk flag resolution. Institutional exports follow NACE First-Destination methodology with knowledge-rate and small-cell suppression documented in every report.
